Superstar couple's top secret wedding

Hollywood couple Justin Long and Kate Bosworth have reportedly tied the knot in a secret New York ceremony last month.

New details of the “spontaneous” nuptials have been revealed, after Long previously let slip that the pair were now wed, referring to Bosworth as his “now-wife”.

According to Page Six, an insider shared that the couple married in an intimate ceremony at The Rockaway Hotel in Queens.

"It was a very low-key ceremony. Onlookers thought it was an engagement photo shoot of some sort – not an actual wedding," the source told the outlet.

The pair had stayed at the venue after attending an event hosted by fashion brand Roxy, which Bosworth is in collaboration with, and fell in love with the location.

"They fell in love with the vibe of the hotel, and they decided to get married the next day right then and there!" the source explained.

While appearing on a podcast in early May, Long let the news of his marriage status slip, as he discussed how Bosworth would come and visit his sets while they were falling in love.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kate Bosworth (@katebosworth)

"I was there while I was like really falling in love with my now-wife," he said on the Life is Short podcast.

"She came to visit and I had never been comfortable with…set visits. Happy ending for four-legged wedding crasher

When a couple’s special day was interrupted by a stray dog, not only did he steal the show, but he stole their hearts too.

Tamíris Muzini and Douglas Robert were preparing for their wedding ceremony at a church in the city of Vila Velha, on Brazil’s southeastern coast, when a stray dog joined the 150 invited guests in attending, as reported by the NY Post.

“Before the ceremony started [the dog] entered the church and went straight upstairs, where he met the groom and guests,” Muzini told the outlet.

After that he returned downstairs, where he lay outside the door until Muzini arrived.

“He stayed there, just waiting for me to enter,” she said.

A stray dog that gatecrashed Tamíris Muzini and Douglas Robert’s wedding has since become a member of their family.
Not long after his US Open disqualification, Novak Djokovic bruised another line judge’s face after a stray forehand at Roland Garros.

The tennis star admitted he had an “awkward moment of deja vu” after unintentionally hitting a ball which smashed into the head of a line judge at Roland Garros this morning.

World No. 1 Djokovic for his 35th win of 2020 and a place in the Paris quarter-finals for the 14th time with a 6-4 6-3 6-3 win over Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

However, while stretching the star threw the ball out of the frame off of his racquet and into the baseline judge sitting near him.

The Serb went immediately to the official to check if he was okay.

The incident follows not long after he was defaulted at the US Open in New York for swiping angrily at a ball which hit a female line judge, who was standing just behind him, in the throat.

Djokovic just sniped another line judge pic.twitter.com/QaEMWXNrBg
— Gump Cathcart (@bubbagumpino) October 5, 2020

That disqualification is the only defeat Djokovic has suffered all year.

“My gosh, it was very awkward deja vu. I’m actually trying to find the linesperson and see if he’s OK because I saw he had a little bit of a bruise, like redness, in that place in the head where the ball hit him,” said Djokovic.

He has now reached the French Open quarter-finals for an 11th straight year.

“I hope he’s fine. I mean, he definitely dealt with it in a very strong and brave way. But it was a hit because I was very close.

“Obviously because of what happened in New York, people I guess are going to make the story out of this. It has happened to me and to many other players in the last 15 years that I’ve been on the tour.

“I’ve seen it a lot when the ball ricochets from the racquet and the frame, hits someone in the stands, or someone that is close to you or a line umpire. Yeah, it was a very awkward situation.”

Arctic cod liver oil: superstar for healthy ageing and immunity

We all need good nutrition for optimum wellbeing but this may be of even greater importance in our golden years. Of the many nutrients that benefit healthy ageing, omega-3s are superstars since they are essential to the proper functioning of every cell in our bodies.

The main beneficial omega-3s, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are naturally highly concentrated in Arctic cod liver oil. The difference between Arctic cod liver oil and other fish oils is that Arctic cod liver oil generally contains 50% more DHA than EPA, whereas other fish oils are naturally higher in EPA than DHA.

This ratio makes Arctic cod liver oil stand out as a superfood for supporting systems that have an abundance of DHA such as the brain and eyes. In addition to this, Arctic cod liver oil contains a rare supply of naturally occurring vitamins A and D, providing further support for a range of body systems such as skin cell and immune support.

Here are 6 ways that the nutrients found in Arctic Cod Liver Oil have been shown to support ageing & immunity:

1. Heart health

Increasing levels of evidence have shown the beneficial impacts of dietary Omega 3’s against heart disease, and gaining sufficient omega-3 might be easiest done in the form of a cod liver oil supplement (1). Studies have indicated that dietary omega-3s appear to decrease the cardiovascular risk factors that lead to heart disease (2,3). This has been particularly obvious when cod liver oil supplementation has occurred in the Western diet. One particular study found that supplementing a typical Western diet with cod liver oil had positive effects on the heart health of study participants (1).

This was likely due to the high concentration of omega-3’s contained in cod liver oil. As cardiovascular disease is a prominent health issue in Australia, Arctic cod liver oil may be an important addition to one’s diet in support of improving heart health (4).

2. Brain health

The brain tissue of humans is predominantly composed of lipids, which are made up of different fatty acids. DHA is the most abundant fatty acid in the brain. The levels of DHA in the brain increase during development and decrease with ageing. Further to this, DHA levels in the brain can be altered by dietary intake of omega-3s (5).

A number of studies have suggested that low levels of DHA in the brain are linked to an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia in older adults (6). Therefore, because of the rich profile of DHA in cod liver oil, supplementation of this particular fish oil may be specifically beneficial for the ageing population in support of brain health.

3. Bone strength

One of the main draw factors of cod liver oil is its naturally occurring vitamin D. While the most abundant method for increasing one’s vitamin D status is usually through sunlight exposure, sufficient and safe amounts of healthy sun exposure are increasingly difficult to achieve for many in the modern population.

Therefore, cod liver oil supplementation may be a valuable alternative for supporting one’s required daily intake of vitamin D for optimal bone health. Osteoporosis is a bone disease characterised by decreased bone mass that occurs primarily in postmenopausal women (7). This disease places them at greater risk of fractures in their later life. Therefore, cod liver oil may be beneficial for supporting bone development and maintenance throughout life, and particularly in later life when the risk of bone fracture is increased.

4. Vision

Deteriorating eyesight is a common health problem in the ageing population. As with the brain, the eye is highly enriched with omega-3 fatty acids, with particularly high levels of DHA present in the retina of the eye (8). Therefore, DHA has an important functional role in the retina, primarily helping minimise the damage that is caused from the ongoing exposure to light throughout life (12).

Therefore, people over the age of 50 are recommended a regular intake of marine fish or a food supplement that has high concentrations of DHA, such as cod liver oil, to support their eye health (12). In addition to this, cod liver oil is appealing because it is a good source of naturally occurring vitamin A in its most ‘active’ form, which may support individuals who have problems with night vision.

5. Skin care

Human skin plays a pivotal role in the feeling of wellbeing and physical attractiveness in an individual (14). Our skin is continuously exposed to internal and external influences that may alter its condition. As a result, we may experience inflammation, immune dysfunction, skin disorders, and ultimately ageing.

The functioning and attractiveness of the skin are dependent on nutrition, as evidenced by the characteristic skin lesions that often occur from particular deficiencies in the diet. (14) Dietary supplementation with specific vitamins, minerals, or essential fatty acids will therefore support skin care in these situations (15). Many reports have suggested that the intake of omega-3s, (EPA and DHA), may provide considerable health benefits in relation to inflammatory diseases that have the potential to cause rashes, lesions or other disorders to the skin. One study found that a relatively low supplemented dose of EPA and DHA within a 4-week period was protective against UV radiation (16). Therefore, cod liver oil supplementation may be recommended to help and support skin care in later life.

6. Immune system

Many studies have found that the anti-inflammatory profile of cod liver oil supports the immune response of an individual. Further to this, the effect of omega-3 dietary supplementation has been shown to improve clinical variables of disease activity (17). One study found that cod liver oil supplementation for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis allowed these patients to decrease their NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) intake, thus improving gastrointestinal and cardiovascular health without any worsening of disease activity (17).

Another study produced results that suggested a protective effect of cod liver oil supplementation against type 1 diabetes (18). Numerous changes occur in the immune system with advancing age, probably contributing to a decreased immune response (20).

Looking at these amazing benefits for multiple body systems, you can see why Arctic cod liver oil is a superstar for immune support and healthy ageing.

Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil™ is made from 100% wild Arctic cod. Unlike other “cod liver oils” on the market, no fish body oils or synthetic vitamins or additives are ever used.

Nordic Naturals award-winning Arctic Cod Liver Oil™ is made exclusively from wild Arctic cod, and is an ideal choice to help boost immune system health during the colder months. Vertically integrated from catch to finished product, Arctic Cod Liver Oil far surpasses the strict European Pharmacopoeia Standard for fish oil purity and freshness.
Celebrities are putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to donating to bushfire relief that’s ravaging Australia.

Elton John received a standing ovation at his concert as he pledged to donate $1 million for Australia’s bushfire relief efforts.

“There are people out there who have lost their lives trying to save homes. There are people who have lost their lives and their homes,” he said to the crowd.

“And lastly there’s the plight of the animals. A loss of their habitat that frankly is on a biblical scale, and heart-breaking. Therefore, tonight I will be pledging one million dollars to support the bushfire relief fund.”

Elton John just donated one million dollars to the bushfire relief pic.twitter.com/Ld2i0t9n98
— Britt (@BrittA2211) 7 January 2020

He matched Marvel star Chris Hemsworth donation of $1 million, as Hemsworth encouraged his 38.9 million followers on Instagram to dig deep and help in any way that they can.

“We’re still in the thick of it here with plenty of challenging times ahead and still to come. What drives the appeal of 'Passion of the Christ' and other films on the life of Jesus

Church isn’t the only place people go to learn about Jesus.

At the beginning of Lent, 15 years ago, devout evangelical Christians did not go to church to have ashes marked on their foreheads. Rather, they thronged to theaters to watch a decidedly Catholic film to begin the Lenten season.

That film was Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,” which would go on to gross over US$600 million globally. It brought to screen a vivid portrayal of the last few hours of the life of Jesus and even today many can readily recall the brutality of those depictions. The film also stirred up a number of cultural clashes and raised questions about Christian anti-Semitism and what seemed to be a glorification of violence.

This wasn’t the only film to bring Jesus to cinema in such a powerful way. There have, in fact, been hundreds of films about Jesus produced around the world for over 100 years.

These films have prompted devotion and missionary outreach, just as they have challenged viewers’ assumptions of who the figure of Jesus really was.

From still images to moving images

For the last two decades, I have researched the portrayal of religious figures on screen. I have also looked at the ways in which audiences make their own spiritual meanings through the images of film.

Images of Jesus, or the Virgin Mary, have long been part of the Christian tradition. From amulets to icons, paintings to sculptures, Christianity incorporates a rich visual history, so perhaps it is not surprising that cinema has become a vital medium to display the life of Jesus.

Inventors of cinematic technologies, such as Thomas Edison and the Lumière brothers, were among the first to bring Jesus’s life to the big screen at the end of the 19th century. Hollywood continued to cash in on Christian audiences all through the 20th century.

In 1912, Sidney Olcott’s “From the Manger to the Cross” became the first feature length film to offer a full account of the life of Christ.

Fifteen years later, crowds flocked to see Cecil B. DeMille’s “The King of Kings”, demonstrating the power of a big budget and a well-known director. Writing about DeMille’s film some years later, film historian Charles Musser commented how the film evoked “Christ’s charisma” through “a mesmerizing repertoire of special effects, lighting and editing.”

In Hollywood’s portrayal, Jesus was a white, European man. In Nicholas Ray’s 1961 film, “King of Kings” Jeffrey Hunter made a deep impression on his audience in the role of Jesus with his piercing blue eyes. Four years later, George Stevens’s “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, cast the white Swedish actor Max von Sydow in the lead role.

In all these films, evidence of Jesus’s Jewish identity was toned down. Social or political messages found in the gospels – such as the political charge of a “kingdom of God” – were smoothed over. Jesus was portrayed as a spiritual savior figure while avoiding many of the socio-political controversies.

This was, as Biblical studies scholar Adele Reinhartz put it, not Jesus of Nazareth, but the creation of a “Jesus of Hollywood.”

Global moral instruction

Many of these films were useful for Christian missionary work.

An advertisement for Olcott’s film, for example, stated how it was “destined to be more far-reaching than the Bible in telling the story of the Savior.” Indeed, as media scholars Terry Lindvall and Andrew Quicke have noted, many Christian leaders throughout the 20th century utilized the power of film for moral instruction and conversion.

A 1979 film, known as “The Jesus Film”, went on to become the most watched film in history. The film was a relatively straightforward depiction of the life of Jesus, taken mainly from the gospel of Luke.

The film was translated into 1,500 languages and shown in cities and remote villages around the world.

The global Jesus

But, as majority Christian population shifted from Europe and North America to Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, and South Asia, so did portrayals of Jesus: they came to reflect local cultures and ethnicities.

In the 2006 South African film “Son of Man”, for example, Jesus, his mother and disciples are all black, and the setting is a contemporary, though fictionalized, South Africa. The film employed traditional art forms of dance and music that retold the Jesus story in ways that would appeal to a South African audience.

It was the same with a Telugu film, “Karunamayudu” (Ocean of Mercy), released in 1978. The style resembles a long tradition of Hindu devotional and mythological films and Jesus could easily be seen as part of the pantheon of Hindu deities.

For the past four decades in southern India and beyond, villagers have gathered in front of makeshift outdoor theaters to watch this film. With over 100 million viewers, it has become a tool for Christian evangelism.

Other films have responded to and reflected local conditions in Latin America. The Cuban film “The Last Supper,” from 1976, offered a vision of a Jesus that is on the side of the enslaved and oppressed, mirroring Latin American movements in Liberation Theology. Growing out of the Cold War, and led by radical Latin American priests, Liberation Theology worked in local communities to promote socio-economic justice.

Meanwhile, the appeal of some of these films can also be gauged from how they continue to be watched year after year. The 1986 Mexican film, “La vida de nuestro seĂąor Jesucristo,” for example, is broadcast on the Spanish-language television station Univision during Easter week every year.

The power of film

Throughout history, Jesus has taken on the appearance and behavior of one cultural group after another, some claiming him as their own, others rejecting certain versions of him.

As the scholar of religion Richard Wightman Fox puts it in his book “Jesus in America: Personal Savior, Cultural Hero, National Obsession:” “His incarnation guaranteed that each later culture would grasp him anew for each would have a different view of what it means to be human.”

Cinema allows people in new places and times to grasp Jesus “anew,” and create what I have called a “georeligious aesthetic.” Films, especially those about Jesus, in their movement across the globe, can alter the religious practices and beliefs of people they come into contact with.

While the church and the Bible provide particular versions of Jesus, films provide even more – new images that can prompt controversy, but also devotion.

<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag. Where is Da Vinci’s $450m Jesus painting?

A highly anticipated exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci’s works at the Louvre is set to open on October 24.

Nearly 120 of the Italian artist’s most famous art pieces will be brought together with Mona Lisa at the Paris museum to commemorate the 500th anniversary of his death.

However, with less than two weeks to go before the show opens, there are doubts as to whether the popular Salvator Mundi – the first Leonardo to be found for more than a century – will be featured.

The painting, which depicted Jesus in Renaissance dress, emerged as the world’s most expensive after it sold at a 2017 auction for US$450.3 million to Prince Badr bin Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

The painting’s whereabouts is currently not known. New York art historian and dealer Robert Simon claimed he had heard that it was “being kept in a secure art storage facility in Switzerland” as of months ago, while Artnet.com alleged it was stored on a superyacht owned by Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Art Newspaper went further to claim that the Salvator Mundi will be “a no-show”, given that the museum had yet to secure the approval for the loan four weeks prior to the opening.

A spokeswoman for the Louvre told the Observer: “I confirm the Louvre has asked for the loan of the Salvator Mundi. We don’t have the answer yet and thus, don’t have any further comment.”

The painting’s authenticity has also been called into question. It was initially attributed to the “school of Giovanni Boltraffio”, a student of Leonardo’s, before it was upgraded to “a work by Boltraffio” in 1958. The piece was only authenticated as “an autograph work by Leonardo” in 2011.

Several experts have challenged the attribution, with some claiming the painting was a “studio work with a little Leonardo at best”.

“Go back to America”: Alan Jones’ divisive words about Aussie basketball superstar Ben Simmons

NBA star Ben Simmons has come under fire from radio host Alan Jones after the star was said to have snuck out the side door and avoided fans waiting outside his basketball camp.

The basketball camp had kids aged seven to 18 reportedly turn up for the camp at the Hills Basketball Stadium in Castle Hill.

Those who had missed out on spots inside the camp had waited outside in hopes of getting a photo or signature from their idol.

Simmons is said to emerge from a different door to jump into a tinted Mercedes waiting nearby without stopping for pictures or autograph, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Australia’s richest athlete Ben Simmons brushed off a few blokes asking for autographs in Castle Hill. He withdrew from the warm up games even though fans had spent hundreds of dollars hoping to watch him play.

“And I’m told he held two training camps for junior basketball players in Sydney and Melbourne. I understand that when he arrived, he walked straight past the fans, who had been waiting for hours, he refused to sign autographs or say hello.”

After announcing this news, Jones had divisive words for Simmons.

“Ben Simmons, I know you’re an Australian but go back to America and stay there.”

His comments come after Simmons accused Melbourne’s Crown Casino of racism last week, saying that he and a group of friends were denied entry because of their skin colour.

Crown Casino hit back quickly saying that the company had audio and CCTV footage that proved the basketballer refused to show ID and did not meet the venue’s dress code.

Fans were also not pleased about the fact that Simmons withdrew from Australia’s exhibition games against Team USA at the end of the year after he was used as a drawcard to sell tickets worth hundreds of dollars.

Robbie Williams’ secret health battle: “I didn’t leave the house for three years"

On Sunday evening, Robbie Williams performed to thousands of adoring fans – something he thought he might not ever get the opportunity to do again, he admitted.

The British superstar opened up about his health battle with agoraphobia, admitting it left him unable to get off the sofa for three years from 2006 until 2009.

Williams told The Sun he was sofa-ridden and couldn’t leave his home or continue to perform or work because his mind told him he “shouldn’t go anywhere".

“My career had gone stratospheric and taken me to Mars, and I needed some time to get my equilibrium back and get myself back together,” the singer candidly revealed.

“It was my body and mind telling me I shouldn’t go anywhere, that I couldn’t do anything. It was telling me to just wait — so I literally just sat and waited.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Robbie Williams (@robbiewilliams) on May 3, 2019 at 7:46am PDT

“I was agoraphobic from around 2006 to 2009. Those years were just spent wearing a cashmere kaftan, eating Kettle Chips, growing a beard and staying in.

“I remember they offered me ÂŁ15 million ($A26 million) to take over from Simon Cowell on American Idol, plus a big gig in the States, but I turned it down because I wasn’t leaving the sofa at the time. I just couldn’t.”

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder where an individual can fear and avoid places or situations that might cause them to panic and make them feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed.

Thankfully, the singer decided to get the help he needed when he heard the song Human by fellow musicians The Killers on the radio.

“I remember listening to that Killers song and something in that moment made me think, ‘I had better get my a**e in gear, put an album together and tour’.

Robbie eventually made a comeback on The X Factor in 2009 where he performed his song Bodies.

However the the appearance did not go as smoothly as planned when the sliding stage doors got stuck and a critic slammed Robbie's "wide-eyed, unblinking and sweaty" rendition was a sign he "wasn't the superstar he used to be."

“There was no rhyme or reason why five minutes before that, it hadn’t happened. But when I did come back, it felt so unnatural. It’s why that Bodies performance was so bad — I didn’t know what the f*** I was doing, it didn’t seem natural to me any more.

“I had to re-learn how to entertain. It wasn’t an easy process — it was like having a car crash and then learning how to walk again.

The British star eventually re-joined the Take That tour in 2011, which broke all previous records for ticket sales, and extra dates were added to adhere to demands.

“If it wasn’t for Take That, and re-joining them, I don’t know if I’d have come back at all.”

He added, “Initially, I got to hide in plain sight – I could hide behind my boys. They helped an awful lot.”

The most dangerous wonder of the world

Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue is quickly becoming the most dangerous wonder of the world.

Last Friday, the 4km Corcovado jungle trail to the giant statue was closed the day after a Polish man was stabbed.

The Polish tourist was one of 58 people to have been robbed along the trail in 10 days. Throughout this year alone, more than 150 people have been robbed at the attraction.

Young and armed criminals from nearby slums have been coming from the mountainside and then pouncing on unsuspecting tourists before disappearing back to their villages.

Five men ranging between the ages of 18 and 29 have been arrested and charged over the stabbing.

Locals are so concerned they’ve stuck signs on trees and poles warning in English and Portuguese, “Be cautious. Do not risk your life.”

21-year-old Dutch student Renate Trinks told news.com.au how her and her two friends encountered three young Brazilian men waiting for them at the end of the hike.

“When we were closer they showed us their knives and told us to sit down and give them all our stuff,” Renate said.

“While we were handing over our belongings more tourists were coming and they robbed everyone.”

“Some people had a lot of cash on them, and expensive cameras – [the robbers] had two backpacks full of stuff.”

Half an hour passed before the gang walked everyone 200m back down the pathway before they disappeared back into the trees.

“They said there was a guy waiting for us with a gun, but we never saw this guy. So I think it was just to scare us,” Renate said.

“At the beginning when I saw their knives I was a little scared but the robbery itself was not too scary, they were pretty calm. They gave back passports and credit cards.”

“I had read online that the hike was pretty dangerous and I already had a bad feeling about it so I didn’t bring my watch and rings. I decided to bring my phone to take pictures.”

Brazil’s unemployment rate has tripled to over 13 per cent and its first female president Dilma Rousseff was fired by parliament shortly after the conclusion of the Olympics.

Over 480,000 Brazilian tourists and students arrived in Australia last year, an increase of 181 per cent from a decade ago.

The Brazilian Community Council of Australia estimates there are around 60,000 Brazilians living in the country.

This year, there have been 85 police officers killed in Rio and civilians are injured and killed by stray bullets from battles between police and gangs.

The head of Rio’s tourist police department (DEAT) ValĂŠria AragĂŁo has announced the closure of the trail inside Tijuca National Park until sufficient police resources are put there.

“Patrolling in the region will never be efficient because human resources in the security forces are overwhelmingly under-resourced,” she told reporters.

Christ the Redeemer, which receives on average 5,500 visitors per day, is still accessible by train, van and taxi.
